Let your imagination run wild in this nature inspired camp. We'll play improvised games, act out scenes, read stories out-loud in the cool shade of our favorite trees. We'll paint, write, color, and use sidewalk chalk. We'll play capture the flag, soccer, frisbee, and basketball outside in the fresh air and sunshine. Let your young grower tend tomatoes, squash, carrots, peas and herbs. We will explore the garden theme through art, drama, music, dance, engineering projects and creative play. Our full/super day campers will travel to the National Botanical Gardens this week and enjoy Mother Nature at its finest in downtown DC.
Follow the yellow brick road to the Marvelous Land of Oz. Explore the Emerald City with the Scarecrow. Help him get his brains and the Tin Woodsman find his heart. Join the Cowardly Lion as he tries to find his courage and travel with Dorothy and Toto to meet the Wonderful Wizard! Don't miss Jack Pumpkinhead, Tip, and the Sawhorse that's been brought to life. We'll make our own flying monkey wings and Emerald City spectacles. We'll meet Glinda the good witch and test the magic of the ruby slippers as we play games, sing songs, make art, and travel everywhere from Munchkinland to the kingdom of the Winkies.
BAM! POW! and ZAP! your way through summer in our Superhero Adventures Camp. We'll design our own superhero costumes and make super gear (utility belts, magic lassos, hero masks). We'll make things that fly, crawl, roll, and float this week. Help in daring rescues on our playground, crawl through laser-beam-filled tunnels and build up courage by learning simple self‐defense techniques. This camp will empower our campers to find the heroes within themselves. Our full/super day campers will go to American History Museum to get our hands and minds busy in their Spark Lab!
Is the force strong in you? Join us as we explore a universe of starships, droids, aliens, and wookies. Fly x-wing fighters, board the millennium falcon, stop the Imperial forces and destroy the Death Star. We'll make our own lightsabers. We'll spend the week exploring exotic worlds from the Star Wars universe including Tatooine, Cloud City, Degobah, and the moon of Endor. We'll work on droid construction/maintenance on many models including C3P0, R2D2, and BB8. We'll practice our light saber skills and force training. Full/Super day campers will travel to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum to be inspired and help them make their own discoveries about space, stars, planets, and our extraordinary universe.
Sharpen your brains in this week full of scavenger hunts, puzzles, map reading and buried treasures. We'll search for bones and fossils and historic artifacts in this week of epic ciphers and quests. Imagine the lives of earlier humans when you see their treasures, piece together their everyday belongings and discover who they were. We'll visit the Museum of the American Indian to look at the collection of treasures that belonged to the first people in this country. The past is out there, let's go find it!
Grab your wand and robes and join us for a week of spell casting, potion making, prophecy reading, and quidditch! We'll care for magical creatures, practice herbology, and learn defense against the Dark Arts with our own Gilderoy Lockheart. Just remember not to wander into the Forbidden Forest. This week of fun and mystical adventures is sure to bring joy and excitement to anyone who enjoys the world of Harry Potter.
Release your inner rockstar this week, writing songs, rehearsing covers, practicing both real and air guitar for the week's final musical show. Design your rockstar look, create choreography with your band mates and get ready to perform under the hot lights! Join a daily drum circle to feel the beat and practice rhyming lyrics for your songs. Name your group and design your logo, make a Band T-shirt and get ready to perform. Join the band this week and unleash your musical side.
If you love animals, this week is for you! We'll use a mix of science and creativity to explore the ecosystems of living things. We'll pet, feed and visit with goats, pigs, ducks, ponies, and more! We'll create a world of animal inspired art projects ranging from sculpture to watercolor. We'll hunt for animal tracks; follow our eyes, ears and noses; and conduct simple experiments to uncover the mysteries of animal specialization. We'll study the idea of survival in everything from Ant-eaters to Zebras. We'll take a field trip to the National Zoo, so that we can see all our favorite stars from the animal kingdom!
Are you the one who will pull the Sword from the Stone? Play a knight, a queen, or a dragon. Fight along side Robin Hood and his merry men, find your honor with the Knights of the Round Table. We’ll dress up in costumes, armor, finery, and jewels. We’ll improvise feasts and meet Merlin. Channel your inner Young Arthur and jump into various animal hosts; ants, birds, and fish.This is the stuff of timeless legends. On Thursday's Adventure Day, we'll visit the Smithsonian Castle on the Mall in downtown Washington DC and have lunch in the formal Enid A. Haupt Garden.
Get ready for adventures in the Paleozoic, Mesozoic and Cenozoic Eras. Imagine a world millions of years ago when the earth was hot and fiery, flowers did not exist, and giant insects filled the skies. We'll create our own primeval forest, dig for fossils, and make cave paintings as we explore the prehistoric Land Before Time. We'll map a geologic timeline of our planet's volcanos, meteors and mass extinctions. We'll travel back to the dawn of human life to learn about dinosaurs, huge birds of prey, and the giant mammals who came before us. We'll discover how different the environment was during those early eras of our planet's history. Full day campers will visit the Smithsonian Natural History Museum.
Join us as we explore the wonderful world of insects. See the camouflage expert stick bug, hold a huge, furry tarantula, listen to the hiss of a forest beetle and catch hundreds of leaf-hoppers and moths in the skim-net. Make up a bumblebee dance, design your own wings and create giant flowers for our final performance of the summer. This week we'll travel to the US Botanical Gardens to see our DC native insects at work. Bee there or Bee square!
